HR springs-what do you think?

If you price the stock struts from vw-auto-parts.com, it comes out to be around 500 for all four. That's for OE struts though, not sure how much aftermarket ones are.

So if the shocks fail, how much I should be looking to replace them ?

Depends on what you decide to go with, standard lowered dampers, adjustable, ect.

Makes no sense to swap in new OEMs on lowered springs after the original OEMs failed. The replacements will give the same compromise to ride comfort an will just fail again as well.

In my experience, H&R sports lowered the stock dampers beyond their effective range resulting in a bouncy ride and hitting bump stops on rough pavement.

Switched to DG springs and, though the drop is not as low, the ride quality is great and wheel gap is even all around.
