Okay, so my wife now reports that the radio cuts in and out, and reception is generally rubbish, is this common, and can it be fixed?

Yes, as it turns out, a better fakra adaptor was ordered (with both the cables wired as opposed to the single one provided with the unit), AM radio now registers, but is still essentially useless, this is not a deal killer as the wife only had 1 AM preset which she used 3 times a year. The FM reception is now back where it was before the change to the RCD330, its clear and constant, which no crackle or fading.

I got the cost of the better adaptor back from the seller of the head unit, as they absolutely refused to consider the idea that their adaptor was crap, but would quite happily sell me a better one.....thats customer service for you!

One final note, apple carplay works just fine, Waze/Whatsapp/Goggle maps/Spotify all now appear and work as expected, though I prefer bluetooth connectivity and a cigarette lighter charger, that actually charges the phone at a decent rate, rather than the lower power coming out of the head unit.

cheers!

Anyone else with an iPhone XS having issues when connecting via bluetooth?

I can connect to the RCD330 fine, and sync contacts etc. But it seems to be disabling my cellular connection so I can't make or receive calls or use data. As soon as I disconnect the phone from the RCD330, the phone works fine again.

It's annoying because bluetooth is convenient for short trips.

Just installed the RCD330 into my Dynaudio equipped car. I was afraid of the issues that most Dynaudio owners faced but it is working great. It sounds better than the stock headunit, but that maybe the placebo effect. I didn't have to disconnect the battery at all. Just plug and play. I need to get used to not having the stats displayed on the MFD though.

I got this exact one if anyone was wondering: https://www.ebay.com/itm/RCD330-Plus-Android-Auto-CarPlay-6-5-MIB-Car-Radio-Noname-6RD035187B-For-VW/253569243820?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649

It took exactly a week to get here from Hong Kong.

Thought I would add a few pics of the RCD 330 with a glass screen protector.

Got it on Amazon but I think any 6.5 " protector should work. Touchscreen still super responsive. Install wasn't too difficult. There is a slight gap on the left side but just my error during install . Didn't feel like lifting back up

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07B67Q8KG?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf

Also here is brief review of the rcd 330g plus

Replaced my RNS315, was installed on a non dynaudio gti.

Some minor complaints:
- have to have usb plugged in for android auto.
- no album art via Bluetooth. But my RNS 315 didn't have it either.
-bluetooth mic picks up more background noise because of the mic location. But callers say that my voice is loud and clear.
- No Satellite Radio
- No oem navigation ( but was outdated either way)
- No CD ( but didn't use the stock CD player once , since I owned the car)
-bluetooth unpairs if I turn off the car before disconnecting the USB cable while android auto is in use
- Had to get a dual fakra adapter for better FM Radio reception, but was $10 on Amazon

Pros:
- Android Auto/Car Play
-6.5" screen responsive screen and quick
- Better FM reception than RNS315 , even with the single fakra adapter. But reception improved even more with the dual fakra adapter.
- sound is just as good as rns315 if not better.
- price $226 can't beat that for a oem unit with Android auto. ( I used a 15% off eBay coupon and countered the seller from the original price , $187 after coupon)
- all steering wheel buttons work, Google assistant is way better than the original voice recognition software.

I'm intrigued by the head unit due to having the Premium 7 which sounds like you're listening in a bathroom, LOL. Car audio specialists say the poor fidelity is due to radio signal, though my previous car sounded far better. I notice you say the FM sounds good, hence my curiosity. I'm not much of a DIY-er so if this takes lots of tools and experience I probably won't bother. It looks sweet though but sucks there's no CD player. I was going to upgrade to the VW made RCD-510 but it requires a ton of VCD programming which I'm unable to do. Where did you get the head unit, how much was it and do you have to program the system computer? Thanks

This is the one I got , it was $226 at that time . I sent him a offer of $215 . He countered with $220 . I accepted it and used a 15% coupon ebay had that day. Total was $187.

Now it's $236, even for $236 it's a good deal. I primarily got if for Android auto . The FM reception is definitely better than the rns315 I had . I did end up getting a dual fakra adapter and that improved the reception even more . The single adapter included with the radio caused interference occasionally. New dual Fakra Adapter was under $10

Install was very simple, plug and play the only coding I did was to disable the rear view camera message. Since I don't have a camera installed

Ali Express has the same unit for a bit cheaper this one is $203 seller claims perfect condition

If you just want apple car play and don't intend to use a Android phone you can get this one $173

Achilles R32...thanks for the info etc. As I'm sure you know original equip in a Golf is much different than a GTI and from all the upgrades you've done, you're obviously good at DIY :) It's less about the $$ and more about the sound improvement overall though. I'm not sure if my Golf has the same speaker setup as the GTI and the HU is very different also: https://goo.gl/d45TFw Every dealer says that when installing a HU with far different features than original will require programming also. Thanks

To be honest I'm not sure about the speaker differences between the golf and GTI. My GTI had the non dynaudio speakers . No subwoofer.

Is your golf a mk5 or 6?

The mk5 cars do have issues with battery drain. The can bus gateway needs to be upgrade to a mk6 model.

There was a definite improvement in FM radio reception. But 80% of the time I used Bluetooth to stream music.
AM radio doesn't work since the frequencies are different in the US 10MHz vs 9 which the radio supports

Thanks Achilles...I have MK VI late 2010 Golf that fortunately has the 5 cyl engine which runs beautifully. 62K miles, 5 speed, cloth interior in like new condition. I've been messaging with a guy that's selling his RCD-510 in the marketplace forum, but the dealer said installing it will require MFI programming. He had the RCD-310 previously and said it was plug and play, though I have the Premium 7 (monochrome LCD, no sat radio or bluetooth, single CD player) 8 speakers, no sub woofer, sounds like shit. Thanks

I’ve lived with this headunit for about a year now, and while there are a lot of things to like about it, poor sound quality has remained a frustration. Sound quality is improved with a bit of post eq from my phone, but then I cannot use Apple CarPlay. I’m honestly thinking about getting rid of it. The RCD330 forums are no help, I can’t even log on with what I thought were my log in credentials, and when I reset them, no email ever comes. Probably the worst forum I’ve ever used.
