OK to use slightly higher profile tires on GTI?

Hey all,
Lots of the roads I drive on, well, suck. So I was wondering if it would be OK to move up to a higher profile tire on my 2010 GTI?

Any thoughts?

what wheels are you running?? im running 18x8 up front and 18x8.5 in the back, i run 225/40 all around, the back is stretched and unless your crazy low, no rubbing

Personally, I would swap the 18-inch wheels for 17-inch wheels. That way you can get a larger tire/sidewall but maintain a similar wheel circumference so there will not be too much error in the speedometer.

Oh no, I'm not talking about rubbbing. I mean the ride is very rough on bad roads and higher profile might smooth things out a bit.

Thanks. I run 225/40-17

go 225/45 or 235/45... beefier.. .but check the tire pressure to make sure not too soft.

I ran 235/45 on my GTI when i put the rims from my Passat on there.. the ride FULLY change though as it felt a lil bit marshmellowy.. increased the tire pressure to stiffen up the sidewalls a bit til i got a new set up...ran it only about a month.. definitely notices road surface difference.

Stock size would be 225/45/17, you are running lower than normal profile, I would expect it to be rougher than normal.

225-45-17 here. The ride is better than with the 18" wheels & tires plus I have yet to bend a wheel or bust a tires. Conti DWS 06 tires ride very nicely.

245-45-17 :)

That might turn out to be a bit too tall. I'm sure you can make it fit, but a 245/40-17 might work out better. Following measurements are from an online calculator, actual measurements will be dependent upon the specific tire.

225/40r18
Diameter: 25.1"
Sidewall: 3.5"

245/45r17
Diameter: 25.7"
Sidewall: 4.3"

245/40r17
Diameter: 24.7
Sidewall: 3.9"

So you still get more sidewall, but less risk of tire rub.

I think I'd go with.....
235/45r17
Diameter: 25.3"
Sidewall: 4.2"

Seems like the best overall compromise.

No rub with a track alignment and static suspension setup. No fender rolling
