After 20 years of driving a manual, I bought my 2013 GTI with the DSG. The fact that the GTI has the DSG was one of the big deciding factors in the purchase. My significant other can't drive a manual, and if I was going to compromise on an automatic it needed to have a good sporting character for my spirited driving. So far the manual mode has kept me very happy and for daily slogging about automatic mode is fine. I will probably go Stage 1 at some point and then may look at having the DSG flashed, more for improving automatic mode than any other reason.
