I had windshield coverage on my Impreza, it was a $50 deductible for a new windshield, repairs were free, the monthly cost was pretty insignificant. This is a completely different deductible than the standard (collision) deductible, which for me was still $500. I've done plenty of insurance shopping, and not all companies offer it, some people are just stuck either paying their normal deductible, or paying out of pocket for new glass. So, the option of insuring your glass will vary by company, and state, so it's perfectly understandable that some people have never heard of this option, it may not exist where they live. Check with your insurance company, we go through a lot of windshields in Colorado, but other places may not have enough of a problem to bother.
