Well I am back after the long 6 hours drive home after 2 days of autocrossing. Bagged 2 2nd place in GS, one day to a SRT4 and the other to a Celica GT. Seems to basically be a condensed version of my whole season....both day though were only by margin less than a tenth of a sec, and also both days were top 10 on PAX(8th and 5th). Also did a "grudge match" with another fellow Detroit region guy who is actually from Central Illinois. Basically you do your run as you would in regular autoX(6 runs in this case). Then at the end of your heat your grudge(who also did his runs) swap cars with you and you do 3 runs in the other person's car. The best time from the first 3 runs of your own car plus the best time from the other person's car determines the winner. I lost by pretty handy margin of 2.5 sec...since a) my best time was on my 5th run, and b) I coned my fastest run in his car...though to be fair, his best time was 2nd on PAX AND Raw time...
He has a STR prepped NC Miata, which his codriver at the National almost trophied with. The car is so different from the GTI its hard to described. Considering I'm pretty lacking in any RWD experience it was a lot of fun. Very rear-end adjustable and I promptly spun on my first run...I really need more than 3 runs to drive a car like that, the input to reaction in the car is not nearly as delayed as my top heavy, squishy tired GTI. I still left foot braked in his car but the pedal setup really wasn't made for it, and I can't get my self belted in properly so I was tossing myself around. My fastest run in his car was coned away but was about .7 sec off on raw time, which I am pretty happy about(also good for top 10 on raw time if it was actually clean, so its a really fast car).
I'd like to get more seat time in RWD cars in the future, but my plan is still to get a more properly prepped GS MK7 next season...
