Revamped Water Pump possibly failing....

About 2 years ago I had the water pump replaced under recall since it was failing. Now the new one appears to be failing, Coolant Warning light came on, the reservoir tank was almost empty.

I'm bringing the car in to the dealer this weekend, assuming they confirm it is the Water Pump has any one had success with VWOA to get reimbursed for replacing it, (Over the phone the dealer stated it was no longer under any warranty)

I still have the GEICO mechanical Breakdown coverage, so worst case I file a claim through them and only shell out $250.

Lastly, whats the best source to buy replacement coolant for emergency? I added about 4-5oz of distilled water this morning to shut the light up. Should I just go to the dealer or Autozone should have the correct G20 coolant?

You can only get the correct coolant from the dealer. It was about 20 bucks a jug last year but vw raised their part prices in the beginning of 2018 so it's like 26 bucks now. 50/50 ratio when you dilute also.

Ok thanks for the info, thats what I figured. Hopefully they'll still be open when I get home

You don't have to get the coolant from the dealer only, just have to make sure whatever you get is G13 and you'll be set.

Also you may want to look into the USP water pump. Made from aluminum vs plastic and not too terribly expensive.

Does anyone have any additional information/experience with this part?

Seeing as I have the Carbon Cleaning coming due relatively soon and pending Winter Tire replacement I'm trying to not dump tons of extra money into this. I spent $30 at the dealer to buy a gallon of coolant. I figure I'll at least monitor how quickly it consumes the coolant and maybe kick the can down the road.

I finally decided to get off my ass and go tomorrow to have VW inspect the Water Pump. Assuming they decide to D**K me around and not cover it whats the reasonable expense I should be looking at?

I also still have Geico's Mechanical Breakdown coverage, that should limit it to $250 (assuming I want to file a claim)

Dunno USD prices however VW Martingrove quoted $396 CAD last week... had mine done at K&H VW Specialist...can't recall how much it was. It does weigh 6lbs for those concerned with weight savings and don't mind the leak.. It took mine 260Km to finally start leaking however friend of mine is at 67Km and he's leaking.. his is a 2013 too... go figure

Looking at ECS right now...you can get oem water pump for $148, that's a great price. Was closer to $300 when I bought one for my 09. I think it's all about the torque specs...if the gasket is clean and bolts are installed evenly, you won't have any problems. The dealer will charge you a small fortune.
I will say that aluminum USP part is a pretty sweet piece.
