Maybe the VW's had all season tires... but they weren't really in the race with the Mini... I think what slows them down is the fact that the 2 VW's where fighting for position the first couple laps so they both didn't have optimal lines.

OTOH... that S2000 was pretty fast in the straights... chipped GTI on the other hand would've been just as fast... hmmm

Maybe they left the dsg in sport mode?

Yeah I've almost done that with my wipers because the stalks are too close... Maybe some paddle shifter extensions might help.

All in all. The GTI and Roc are essentially, mid performance cars(by manufacturing standards). The Cooper S, and the S2000 type S, are the high performance counterparts of their base model.
Throw a Golf R, and a Roc R out there and they'd annihilate.
Hell, a stage 1 on each of those would probably make it a butt-ton closer.
