My rabbit was cheap, and has an amazing interior, but isn't slow as balls like the Corolla S or Honda Civic. We all buy our cars with specific features in mind and if I wanted to pay an extra $50 to $100 a month and then pay more in insurance (I already pay $153), I would have bought a GTI.
In the long run, I think any car enthusiast would agree that the rabbit is a very well done vehicle, maybe not as fun as the GTI but still is great as a daily driver.
