APR Presents the 2.0 TSI ECU Update (Version 2.0!)

They just might have actually got it right this time. I'm looking forward to reading some posts from the rest of you. Hopefully anybody having problems will have a similar experience.

Did you experience any throttle lag issues when downshifting/rev-matching? That was my biggest issue by far. If so, were these issues fixed with v2.4?

I feel like I might have had the throttle lag issue, but a minor one. It's hard to say. I think that issue was contributed by the dead spot that used to be at the beginning of the throttle, so it was the same thing that was causing my jerky first gears.

It does seem like I'm rev-matching easier/smoother. I've noticed downshifting definitely feels smoother for me.

I actually feel like I have to relearn how to drive my car kind of now lol

I've been dealing with the RPMs jumping up to 1200~ every time I just barely tapped the gas for so long now that I got used to it. I've learned how to live with it in traffic and through parking lots by figuring out the best way to tap the gas and feather the clutch, and sometimes just keeping it out of gear and coasting. It's been a lot more work than it should be and gave it that race car feel.

Now I go to tap the gas and I expect it to behave the way it has been since I got 2.0, but it doesn't. It's kind of a mind fuck. Just idling through a parking lot and then starting to push the accelerator down is trippy. I begin easing into the pedal expecting my car to take off and instead it just begins to smoothly accelerate. I've gotten so used to expecting my car to just take off when I do that. I need more time behind the wheel to get used to this.

I haven't gotten on it hard too much still, but the car is driving great again. My throttle behaves the way it should. The power in 5th and 6th feels a lot better than it used to. I haven't really seen that surge issue I used to get sometimes when I initially hit the gas after shifting into 4th.

I even feel like there's something about the power delivery in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd that feels different, in a good way.

I still think I need another week or so of driving around town to get a better feel for things, but so far I haven't been able to find anything to complain about.

Thank you for the feedback!

Thank you for listening to the feedback :D

Just went for a quick little ride to go get some lunch, take any opportunity to go for a drive right?

Through one of the parking lots I have to go over a couple speed bumps spaced out about 15 feet apart. Speed bumps like that have always been a pain in the ass, again because of that jumpy throttle issue I keep talking about. It used to take a lot of dancing with the throttle and clutch pedal to keep things smooth, I usually end up popping it in and out of gear a lot and coasting a little bit.

It's so much easier now. It really makes for a more relaxing experience now.

I honestly was worried about handing my keys to someone and letting them drive it, or even move it, just because of how the throttle used to behave. I definitely wouldn't have ever let someone drive my car if they were thinking about it buying it, or even considering an APR tune. If they really wanted that racecar type feeling it was fine, but for every day daily driving it was really kind of uncomfortable. It wasn't a super aggressive issue, but enough of an issue to go "wtf? this drives like shit" every time you started to accelerate if you didn't know how to do it right.

I am sooo much more confident about handing someone else my keys now and I know they won't come back saying it drives funny.

Some of you need to hurry up and get tuned so I'm not the only one talking about it here. lol

Thanks for all that feedback. My 2.1 tune had settled in fairly enough to the point that I had unsubscribed from this thread ;) However, that boost-surge problem in 2nd/3rd gear is still there. It isn't anything major and I have gotten used to it. This update is really giving me hope that all will be well again :)

Have you had any misfire issues with this or the earlier versions? I had a few in the beginning. Not any more though.

I never really noticed surge issues with mine. Never had any misfires either.

Everything I've had an issue with I've pretty much mentioned already. The only other thing I notice to be different is start ups. My start ups weren't as bad as some people have it, but you could still tell something was different. It never bugged me the way it was, but start ups are definitely better now. They seem quieter and smoother now that the RPMs are going so high.

That makes sense. Yea the two probably shared the same underlying issue. Thanks for taking the time to reply. Looks like I'll be re-flashing as soon as my local dealer is ready with the update.

This! I've been putting off having a friend drive my car for this reason, and I'm DSG! The ol' automatic that you have to learn how to drive.

Some of you need to hurry up and get tuned so I'm not the only one talking about it here. lol

Working on it, sent a message to my tuner, will have to give a call.

Getting my update this afternoon. But I've already been driving it for months [emoji3]

DSG drivers should allow some time for it to adapt after the flash before jumping out with conclusions.
A lot of the benefits should be immediately obvious.
I know they did a great job with this update.

Ok, I was specifically referring to the "initial dead spot" issue in the throttle. There is a sudden spike in the acceleration when you keep the pedal pressed. I wrongly assumed it was "boost surge".

I will be scheduling my appointment some time next week. Fingers crossed!

It could be. I got on it a little harder on the way home and noticed it did seem smoother. I think with 2.0 I might have had a little bit of surge, but it was only really right after the initial pedal press and always anywhere from moderate to heavy throttle. I'm not sure if that was contributed by the dead spot or if that was boost surge though. Once it started to go it would stay strong.

I wasn't really getting that slight hesitation and quick pause from the exhaust when I was stepping on it pretty good.

V2.4 Update

I spoke with engineering. We have several thousand files ready to load on the server, which can be a lengthy process in and of itself, and still a couple ECUs which are not updated yet (mainly Tiguan, Beetle, things like that). We’re going to start pushing the NA GTI files up today. As soon as they are on the server and ready to flash, I’ll update everyone on here.

Thank you!

When are ROW files scheduled to be updated? I´ve been holding the update to my car for this new revision for months now.

APR Stage I
Took the plunge and got the 2.4 update this morning to bring back some boost in 5th and 6th and some minor shifting issues with the DSG from my old 2.2b tune. Didn't really have any other complaints.

Just drove back to work, nothing over 45 so too early to test but everything seems same as before if not a little better. Once I get on the highway to test out 5th and 6th I'll be happy to report my findings. So far DSG is shifting great though - although I'll give it some time to adapt and I just did a DSG reset a few days ago anyways.

Glad to see they took all the feedback and put it into practice. Will report back after a couple days to test.

CGorman68

Passed Driver's Ed
Just got back home from getting the tune updated - approx 20 miles. Very happy with it so far!

2013 DSG. Completely stock except a stage 1 tune, running 91 high output.

I haven't been stock since April 2014 so I'm not sure exactly how it compares but the manual mode shifts now feel very similar, if not identical, to stock/v1.2. First time I've used my paddles for more than a shift or two in nearly a year! This is at low, mid, high and WOT. I haven't had a chance to do a cold start but there weren't any issues. Semi-cold start immediately goes to a smooth 800 RPM idle (though I didn't have the idle fluctuations other users reported).

Didn't feel any dips in power in any gear and going full throttle in 5th and 6th gave pretty much immediate power without the dip below and surge at 3k RPM.

I'll keep monitoring the thread and will update with my experiences if they change over the next several days/weeks.
