Lol this fucking code.... I got this code when I bought the car 2 years ago and to this day I still get it. Comes and goes and comes and goes, pretty sure is the same code as U1030. I took it to the dealership last year and the dude said it was a faulty sensor on the radiator and I would have to replace the whole thing but I was tuned so they couldn't do anything about it warrty wise. i just live it with now, sometimes it comes on 3-6 times a week sometimes I doesn't come back in months. If anyone has any other info please tell, other wise the car is fine, it doesn't effect drive ability.

My codes!! I get both the U102F and U1030 and have no idea what they mean...

It's never affected drivability and I got my radiator replaced about a year ago (didn't get the code before then), so I've just lived with it. Glad to see others experience this code :thumbsup:

Yup that's the sensor on the front of the radiator, tamper proof and you can usually only buy it with a new radiator direct from vw

Reviving this old thread but I have had these codes for about two years now. And I can't get rid of them or the CEL.

4 Faults Found:
053295 - Fan Identification Sensor
U102F - 000 - No Communications - Intermittent - MIL ON

053296 - Local Databus
U1030 - 000 - Electrical Malfunction - Intermittent

009576 - Sensor for Ozone Reducing Radiator Identification
P2568 - 000 - Implausible Signal - MIL ON

008577 - Performance Malfunction in Cooling System
P2181 - 000 - - Intermittent


I brought the car to the local VW dealer, they said they would try replacing the whole radiator to fix the issue. I passed on this option for a second opinion.

At my local independent, he said the issue was a sensor and that maybe APR could turn off the codes with a custom Stage 3 flash.

I don't have any issues with driveability or performance. I daily drive, track, time trial, and sometimes autocross this car. And I have never had an issue with overheating or the car going into limp mode.

Should I have the independent replace the radiator or should I try the sensor, 8P4965873A, that goose mentioned? I believe both options would be a dis-assembly of the front end.

P2181 is usually a thermostat. I would try a new Ozone sensor and a waterpump.

were would you buy the sensor from? would you get it from the dealer? because i cant find it anywere.
