Help with gue$$ing the damage

I had some kids rear end me at a stop light last night. Only minor damage from the license plate of the offending Volvo XC90. Problem is the kids fled the scene. I reported the plate to the MA police and was told to come down Monday for a report but I'm worried based on stories I've heard of how hard to is to prove another driver was at fault given privacy laws and the fact I have no witness.

If it comes down to the other party isn't found/denial of a UM claim what do you think the paint fix will cost - Only damage is two holes right thru the bumper and a few other marks down to the metal.

$3-400 for plug/sand/re-paint the whole bumper. Hard part is matching the paint. Labor may be steeper so in most cases where they have to replace the bumper cover, it will be almost $1000.

They're probably going to say they will have to spray the whole bumper so probably $500-700.

Depending where you go of course. Maaco would be like $250, but they're hit or miss with their work. Just using them as a reference.

Not bad then.

I'm still hoping it gets handled by insurance. I don't really care about the cost but on principle I want these kids to pay for ignorance and running from the scene.

Why wouldn't it be covered by your insurance? Worst case, they don't find the other driver, you file a claim and pay your deductible.

I would've chased after them. I'd say $500, mybuddy had her passat rear ended and only the license plate on the opposing car made a mark, similar to your incident. Cost her $500 to get it fixed.

Same this happened to me. Had a new bumper and re-spray and cost me $1000. As above - Make sure you research where you take it. Not always easy to match the bumper paint with the rest of the car. Luckily mine came out perfect.

Thanks for responses.

As for following I'm sure how good of an idea that would have been. This happened near work which is a not so nice section of Springfield, MA. I'm not sure how safe that would have been.
