Best way to measure MT shift times?

I'd like to settle some of the MT/DSG debate and measure some actual upshift times in the MT to quantify exactly how much slower it is than the DSG. What I have available:

VCDS
iPhone 4S
laptops
digital camera
hopefully a decent stopwatch somewhere

Thoughts?

Log it in VCDS. That timestamp is as accurate as your going to get.

Log what though - Does it record what gear the car is in and whether or not the clutch is engaged?

If its a WOT run, we would see a falling spike with either one of the falling:

1) MAF
2) Fueling
3) Boost
4) Injector Timing
5) RPM
6) etc. etc.

Dont think you can log the actual gear movement like you can in the DSG since there is no manual transmission controller.

unless OP powershifts, there is no way it will be as good as DSG because there is a drop during those brief periods of neutral. but I'm definitely in for results on this one..

That's why I said I wanted to measure how much slower it is, not whether or not it is slower!

I wasn't planning on going WOT since I can only max out second gear here legally, though I guess I could shift at 3k or something.

The goal here is to measure shift times only, not 0-60 or anything because I like my tires and clutch

Just log MAF. The log sampling rate should be very high with only one variable.

This will likely depress you in light of the Millisecond DSG shifts....
