New order - VIN question

I have recently put an order on a new GTI to be built. Just wondering at what stage dealer should provide me with VIN or some other number that can be used to link me to my car?

Depends on the stage of build.

Order Entry
Marked sold order
Vehicle assigned
Release for Manuf.
Release for Production
Factory Inspected - VIN is shown
Depature port arrived
Ship loaded
Port arrived
Dealer invoice
Port hold end
Rel. To carrier (Port)
Rail load
Rail unload
Truck load
Dealer delivered
Retail sale

Thanks, this is very informative.
If I understand correctly "Factory Inspected" means - end of the manufacturing process, right?

Yes. With your commission number, you dealer should be able to check the status and provide you with a document like the image below.

Appreciated.
I am at the beinning of the process, so hopefully my car will be here by the end of April when my current lease deal ends.
