Detailed DIY-Lowering Springs Installation

Bump. Time to revisit this for another install in a couple weeks. Pics in the DIY are broken however.

Also, what off set box end wrench worked for people on the top strut mount bolt? Last time I did this I had 2 different company's wrenches in the correct size but the border of the box end was too thick so neither fit. I just ended up using an impact gun but I won't have that option this time around.

The OEM strut nut: a 13/16" Craftsman offset combo wrench EASILY fits into the OEM strut mount

If you're installing the Konis (which I think you are), it's a 22mm nut or 7/8"
Put some antiseize on the the top threads, then there's a lock washer and the nut....you can get away without needing a offset wrench....the lock washer keeps the mount/strut from spinning and you just need the socket on there to tighten it down (usually).
You can then double check the tightness holding the strut shaft at the top with a 11mm wrench and then a 22mm or 7/8" wrench though.

Pics are here in this thread btw now:

Great info in here. I also made a special tool by grinding some flats on a craftsman socket.

Awesome thanks! Oh yeah I remember seeing that vortex thread last time I did suspension work. Cool that it's with Konis as well! Nice that the torque specs are right there at the top too. Im assuming those apply to mk6 as well and are the same?

Thanks for the awesome review. Helped me install my h&r cup kit last week.
So everybody knows, DO NOT SKIMP ON TOOLS! I thought I could use a 1/4" ratchet instead of spreader and it worked for front passenger, but not driver. Buy a spreader and a deep box end wrench. Save yourself the 4 day wait from Sears.
