Wheel Changing

What is the name of the guide tool used to hang a wheel? I'm referring to the pin-like lug insert that supports the wheel being mounted or dismounted. If anyone can point me to a resource where I can find this specifically for my VW, I'd appreciate it.

Also, what are the specs for the wheel lugs on late model GTIs? That is, what are the diameter and thread specs?

Its a 'Wheel Mounting Assist Tool', comes in plastic or metal sells for about $5-12. I dont think it has a fancy name. M14x1.5 is the thread for the tool and lug bolts.

Shock installation will be the same as coilover installation. Dan's spring DIY will help too, but it doesn't cover the rear strut.

Update to previous post. I got it done with help from friends. It was not obvious and it took several attempts. Make sure to have the right axle nut sockets (female). Have a good tool for spreading the shock holder. I don't necessarily suggest going out to buy the spreader tool, but be prepared with an alternative. Also, if using a compression tool with the intention of not removing the axle, make sure it fits enough to compress, otherwise you will have to remove the axle in order to remove the shock and you should be prepared for that. All in all, this was not an easy procedure in the least and I don't reccommend anybody without a significant amount of knowledge, Tools and the ability to let the car sit on stands till you get back to it to try doing this job without a mechaninc'
s help. I had a friend whom is a BMW alignment specialist do the job with me and he was perplexed at times. If you can get the job done for less than $500 CAD, I would say it is not worth doing on your own unless you just really want to learn and you don't mind maybe re-doing the job because you missed something.
