I'd be very leery of the repair cost. I had a new 2006 Civic that I only had for a couple months and got T-boned but it hit more of the driver side tire. All side airbags went off but no broken glass. Repair cost from CARSTARS was approx. $8000. Went in for repair and was in for almost 4 MONTHS.
Total bill: just shy of $15,000 (for a car that was $16-17000 before taxes/financing).
It was dirty and many things that weren't done right. Tried to trade it in as I just couldn't fathom driving a brand new car with that much damage. Even though the dealer did some of the repairs, at first they were giving me just a few grand off/deal on a new Civic. Once they realized the total bill, the best they would give me was $10,000 for a 4 month old car otherwise brand new (only did one oil change!), that they couldn't on a conscience mind sell that car to anyone, that it would go for scrap.
Since I wasn't at fault and had neck/jaw issues (later TMJ, still get a stiff neck many years later even after physio) I successfully sued for soft tissue damages as there was no depreciation claims (regardless I got hurt and still live with it).
In the end, even after the $15,000+ cost to fix, we pushed our insurance that it wasn't a safe car after all and SHOULD have been written off, it was then written off.
Since I had my waiver of depreciation, it cost the insurance company over $30,000+.
In the end if the repair costs go up, you still have a say as a consumer to determine if the car is safe once repaired. At that point my family was going to cancel all of their policies and our grandparents too. We were never the type to have to take things to the extremes but the situation warranted it. I always wished the accident never happened because the pain and stress it caused was never worth it (settlement amount).
Great to hear that you're OK but get the physio, checkups now as car accidents tend to cause permanent damage or pain. For the first couple days I didn't feel much pain as my body was flooded with adrenalin. Not so great after that.
