What specialist would you recommend? Asking for myself...

Depends what you're after... Probably an Orthopedic specialist or doctor you trust who can determine what type of treatment you really need. Plenty of shady doctors out there looking to make a quick buck off people with a bunch of unnessary treatment.

This is a valid question.
Also its always a good idea to see a doctor even if you feel okay. Knew someone who got in a accident didnt go to the hospital or doctors, just had some back pain/neck pain which he assumed was whiplash. A few years later he started getting headaches. He then went to the doctor and they did a exray/mri and they realized his neck was broken and healed improperly. They said if he had gotten hit the wrong way or whipped his head to fast it could have completely broken and paralyzed him.

I may have to put up a fight. The guy supposed to be looking at my car called me today saying he was going to look at it tomorrow.
But from what he can tell "being a newer VW he has no doubt it will be able to be repaired"
Which at this point I don't really want...

I work in the spine industry. To reiterate what a few others have said, don't go to a chiropractor. When I was rear ended 6 months ago, I went to a sports medicine/ orthopedic clinic. I'd recommend getting standing x-rays to confirm no structural damage to your vertebrae/ discs, even if you're only mildly sore. Cover your bases.

He's just busy. Probably trying to make you feel better about it. Even if he has seen pics of the accident I doubt he's getting your case out before he reschedules your appointment.

I had a standing x-ray at a chiropractor I went to a couple years ago and it showed one disk tilted 18 degrees to the left and the next 6 deg to the right. I go through episodes of vertebrae muscle spasms that provoke this condition. Chiropractic care helped relax it but didn't solve anything.

Sorry to thread jack OP

Well they estimated $8k in damages. He didn't tell me what he valued the car at but with the cost to fix it I only hit around the 45% mark.
There will be some cutting and welding involved.
I am going to look into making a diminished value claim with my insurance company.
And also see about having it moved to my local VW dealer's body shop for another opinion and ultimately for them to do the repairs.

This. You can choose the shop that does the work. Typically insurance agencies will make deals with shops to do work in bulk which reduces prices for the insurance agency in exchange for business for the shop. This is WAY more than $8k worth of work.

Don't sign anything until you get a second quote from a shop of your choice.

yeah i told them not to touch it.
going to get it taken to my local VW dealers body shop and see what they have to say.

at the least they will be the ones doing the work and I will be pursuing my options for obtaining a diminished value settlement

$8k estimated repair is an INSULT. There's no way it only costs that much. Get another repair quote.

No way that is totaled. Head curtain airbags $480, seat airbag $325, side sensor $68, seat belt $318, seat cover $337, door shell $615, quarter panel $501, $500-$1000 misc parts, 60-70 hours labor. $8,000 seems about right. Book value around $18K

I don't disagree with your assessment of the damage. I'm just concerned about damage to the unibody or even the frame. Stuff not so easily seen...

It looks as if only the B pillar is the only truly damaged one; everything else looks OK - though it's hard to tell from the pix.

It may not be 8K, but I don't think it will be totaled. That said - I also didn't think it'd cost $2k to fix a 3 MPH fender bender (involving a E90 328i).

They are starting repairs today. I just left the car where it was. I should know a little more on Friday as they start tearing into the car a little more

I'd be very leery of the repair cost. I had a new 2006 Civic that I only had for a couple months and got T-boned but it hit more of the driver side tire. All side airbags went off but no broken glass. Repair cost from CARSTARS was approx. $8000. Went in for repair and was in for almost 4 MONTHS.

Total bill: just shy of $15,000 (for a car that was $16-17000 before taxes/financing).
It was dirty and many things that weren't done right. Tried to trade it in as I just couldn't fathom driving a brand new car with that much damage. Even though the dealer did some of the repairs, at first they were giving me just a few grand off/deal on a new Civic. Once they realized the total bill, the best they would give me was $10,000 for a 4 month old car otherwise brand new (only did one oil change!), that they couldn't on a conscience mind sell that car to anyone, that it would go for scrap.

Since I wasn't at fault and had neck/jaw issues (later TMJ, still get a stiff neck many years later even after physio) I successfully sued for soft tissue damages as there was no depreciation claims (regardless I got hurt and still live with it).

In the end, even after the $15,000+ cost to fix, we pushed our insurance that it wasn't a safe car after all and SHOULD have been written off, it was then written off.

Since I had my waiver of depreciation, it cost the insurance company over $30,000+.

In the end if the repair costs go up, you still have a say as a consumer to determine if the car is safe once repaired. At that point my family was going to cancel all of their policies and our grandparents too. We were never the type to have to take things to the extremes but the situation warranted it. I always wished the accident never happened because the pain and stress it caused was never worth it (settlement amount).

Great to hear that you're OK but get the physio, checkups now as car accidents tend to cause permanent damage or pain. For the first couple days I didn't feel much pain as my body was flooded with adrenalin. Not so great after that.
