Stage 1 tune plus other hardware?

I bought my 2012 R about a month ago and I'm going to do the no-brainer Stage 1 tune. Is there "inexpensive" or "less expensive" hardware that I can add in order to give it more of a growl? I've been quoted something like $6,000 for a Stage 2 tune that includes software, cold air intake, catback and downpipe. Sounds fun and all but a bit out of my league at this time.

Do the Stage 1 tune, and maybe get an intake.....call it a day.

I got quotes of around 300-400$ for a downpipe install from 3 different shops. Catback should only be 1 hour of labor more max.

For a shop to uninstall my downpipe from my crashed GTI cost me $40 bucks lol.

Yeah labor on the turbo back sounds ridiculous. I know i only have a GTI but it was 1 hour labor for the turbo back install from a local (mom/pop) garage that works on german cars.
