Hello all,

This is my first post so i hope I'm posting this in the right place and am not breaking any rules :)

I have a problem with my Golf MK6 1.4 TSI and I was hoping that some of you wise golfmaniacs might be able to help me :D

About a month ago, all of a sudden my golf started having a rough idle. When idling, the engine would drop to about 650 rpm and you could feel the it shaking. The rpm would play a bit up and down as if the engine was trying to compensate. When the car was driving it seemed fine but as soon as I would stop at a traffic light the rpm would drop again. Also (while stopped) the gas pedal was not very responsive at the low rpm. If I hit it a little bit harder I could raise it to above 1500 rpm and there I could hold it stable but not below that.
Anyway, I bought a VAG-COM, hooked it up and read the following fault codes:
Code:
000010 - Camshaft Positioner (Bank 1 Intake)
       P000A - 000 - Slow Response - MIL ON

000768 - Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected
       P0300 - 000 - - Intermittent

000771 - Cylinder 3
       P0303 - 000 - Misfire Detected - Intermittent

000772 - Cylinder 4
       P0304 - 000 - Misfire Detected - Intermittent

000770 - Cylinder 2
       P0302 - 000 - Misfire Detected - Intermittent

000769 - Cylinder 1
       P0301 - 000 - Misfire Detected - Intermittent

009729 - Coolant Pump Control Circuit
       P2601 - 000 - Implausible Signal - Intermittent

004874 - Cylinder Disabling
       P130A - 000 - - Intermittent

A friend of mine suggested that it could be one or more of the spark plugs that were not firing properly or at all. So we bought some new ones and replaced them all. Interestingly enough, this made a difference!
In idle it will still drop to around 650 rpm but now the engine isn't shaking anymore. Also now with the gas pedal, I can hold it steady at 700 rpm, 800, 900 etc, so it is more stable and smooth.

But now I have new symptoms! First of all when the engine drops to 650, I can hear a sound that (I think) was not there before. Something like a repetitive metallic clinging. Anything above 700 and the sound stops!
I read the fault codes again, I now get these:

Code:
008851 - Fuel Pressure Regulator Valve (N276)
       P2293 - 000 - Mechanical Malfunction - Intermittent

000136 - Fuel Rail/System Pressure
       P0088 - 000 - Too High

000022 - Bank 1: CMP Sensor (G40) / Engine Speed Sensor (G28)
       P0016 - 000 - Incorrect Correlation

And a last thing, when I'm driving let's say with 3rd gear and I accelerate a bit more aggressively, it's not a smooth acceleration but I can feel regular small "hiccups" (for lack of a better word).

At this point I'm completely clueless  so I'm hoping someone can help me out here :D

Thanks in advance guys (and gals of course :) )

I had p0016, p2293, with misfires on all cylinders. I manually checked timing (crank-cam correlation) it checked out good. Checked the cam follower on the HPFP it looked just fine. Replaced the in tank fuel pump, fuel filter, cam position sensor, coil packs, and plugs. (All vw direct parts). It now has a p0088 with the p0016 & misfires.

I dont know the 1.4 but my 2.0 had similar symptoms because of the oil screen in the cam bridge getting stuck in the vvt valve. I tore the whole motor apart before I found it
