...a DIY I read stated you needed a O2 sensor wrench to remove the sensors but they look like hex nuts to me that could be done carefully with a wrench…correct?

i would rather spend a little money on tools i don't have vs paying someone a lot of $$$ to do it for me.

Sorry to resurrect this thread. So do you need an O2 sensor wrench or not? It looks like a simple adjustable wrench would take that thing off pretty easily. But I don't want to try it if this O2 wrench "does something special".

You might be able to use a regular 2 sided wrench, but O2 sensors can be very difficult to remove especially after a couple years. An O2 wrench/socket will grip on all sides and won't slip like a 2 sided wrench can. Definately the best tool for the job. It's also a good idea to spray the O2 threads with PB Blaster the day before to loosen any corrosion.
