I know it goes without saying that these cars are very sensitive to battery strength, but i would like to know if a dying battery could cause limp mode to engage.

When mine went dead I didn't get limp mode. Doesn't really help with your situation, just increasing the sample size.

I feel like that seems more likely to indicate a dying alternator than a dying battery if it is a charging system issue.
