Scary Shuddering Sound when accelerating hard

Normal, wheels slippage, resulting in the wheels hopping.

The Lame & The Ludicrous
IMHO traction control can make it worse. When the tire suddenly breaks loose, the car will cut the throttle or apply the brake to the wheel that is slipping, and cease doing that when traction is restored. If you still have the gas pedal floored, the process can repeat.

If you turn traction control off, the tire(s) will instead continue to slip without the ECU interfering until traction is regained.

Thanks. Is this more prominent under wet conditions? It lasted for about 4-5 seconds. Traction control cannot minimize this?

Yes, wet co siting give you less grip. Less grip, more slip.

Better tires would help this issue too. But +200 lb ft of front wheel drive torque on wet surface all of a sudden is pretty much going to do this to a certain extent regardless of what you do. It's the laws of physics.
