Rear Diffuser, what do you guys think?

Our Golf 2.5 has the GTI Exhaust with Rear Valance, my Son sent me this video tonight.
https://youtu.be/qpc-GHLha7A

I'm not sold on it, looks a bit "Cafe" and cheap, what do you think?

When I think rear Diffuser I think of something like this, proper Rear Diffuser based on Bernoulli's equation on flow speed and pressure.

I don't think it looks cheap necessarily. I don't think there is likely any real benefit other than aesthetics but I kind of like it. It's hard to get a good read on how it really looks on the car as he never shows the whole car. I think it would look better with a carbon fiber valence.

Pretty sure that video is the same guy that posted his pictures to ECS. Here is what it looks like. I dont think it looks cheap, but like Wascally said, I am having a hard time discerning if it adds any actual benefit to the car other than aesthetics.

Nothing new, All VW products are aesthetics.

Holding off on this item, I do't see an upside.

Verus Engineering - they make a nice engineered functional rear diffuser. There’s another couple companies with other similar designs but I don’t remember off the top of my head.

In both cases it makes sence that the rear exhause be tucked up into the body work to accomodate the rake angle of the diffuser. I like that do some flow analysis of the air around the car.

rumor has it that a diffuser may help to keep the rear hatch cleaner... dunno.
Good one!

There has been several postings about the add-on spoilers for the Golf, since then it's been one of the things my Son and I have been taking about. The extension on the roof spoiler causes alot of dirt to be kicked up on the hatch. The Golf is my Son's, so I'm leaving it up to him to decide.

Mine does. I don't have maxton, it's a similar design but maybe a little bigger. My hatch definitely stays cleaner, but instead all the dirt ends up on top of the diffuser.

Better than on the rear window. We have noticed that since installing the GTI rear valance on the Golf that the rear window gets dirty faster.

How about a close up of your Diffuser.

I'm not sure he's making any more though.

My Son wants me to make one like yours.

Sterkrazzy, I think there was a tread about your diffuser, do you have a link to get some background info?
