MLUE1 Intake for the VW 2.5

I got a few PMs regarding parts I used to build my Intake so though it best to answer by making this post. Most prices are in CA$, US prices can be cheaper depending on where you buy them BUT it can be built for under $100 if you take your time sourcing the parts.

These are the Items I used to make the MLUE1 Intake System for the Golf 2.5.

1)
Spectre Performance 9429 3-Inch 22-Degree Aluminum Elbow. It supports the entire weight of the Velocity Stack/Filter, so I used the Spectre Aluminum pipe instead of the plastic version. The slight 22 degree elbow works nicely with the VW Stock Intake Manifold , you can also rotate the elbow to angle the filter end to fit as you like.

2)
Vibrant 2714 Black 4 Ply Silicone Sleeve. It supports the entire weight of the Intake components. Fibres embedded in the silicone makes it extremely strong, it does not flex very much at all, used in high temp turbo applications.

3)
Instead of adding a bong for the Oil Filter Assembly Breather I used a K&N Breather Filter for $12 at Walmart. I use a piece of aluminium tubing and a piece of rubber hose to make a quick press fit adapter and used a small hose clamp to secure it.

4)
SKUNK2 3.5" VELOCITY STACK AIR INDUCTION INTAKE FILTER KIT UNIVERSAL HONDA ACURA. This is the Velocity Stack/Filter that I use, I call this the "Big Gulp". The 3.5 inch spec is the size of the larger end of the silicone adapter the velocity stack bell mouth inside the filter is over 4 inches, closer to 5 inches. It is a bit pricey you can buy a cheaper one. Even with the modest cam specs of the 2.5 engine, getting the most oxygen molecules into the engine is the name of the game; to that end a 4-5 inch Velocity Stack/Filter can capture more oxygen molecules and funnel it into the stock 3 inch piping.

EDIT: I saw in some VW Manuals that the Oil Filter Assembly is called the Oil Filter Bracket

Thanks for providing the links of the parts. I might acutually change my carbonio to this.

That's a nice setup. I always thought CAI's were way more expensive than they should be so it's nice to see a relatively inexpensive alternative that works well and looks good.

For those of us in the USofA you will need a SAI filter as well.

Also I would like to add that the length of the pipe on a setup like that is very important to throttle response. MLue's set-up is much longer than mine was in this configuration because the stock manifold allows much more room. Anything under a foot in length on my car with the SRI and the off idle throttle response was REALLY erratic. So much so that other people had a very hard time driving my car.

Also for those wondering about a heat shield apparently heat soak is really not much of a problem on a NA engine.

Nice SAI breather!

Remember I flashed back from IE Stage 2 to Stage1 and the off idle performance was smoother. I think IE can adjust the Stage2 Tune for better off idle performance. A shorter intake tube is better for high end performance.

Funny you mention heat soak, one of the design objectives of a larger bell mouth is to try to negates the effect of heat soak, by capturing more air molecules to off set less dense hot air.
