Hi and thanks for letting me join. I have just bought a 2.0TDI which has done 92kmiles and drives good but yesterday there was a huge cloud of smoke appeared and hasn't done it again. . . . Is this a major problem, ifso any ideas? Thanks in advance

FYI. . . . I've just been to the garage and they recon this:

I had a 2.0 TDI for quite a while before the buy back and I wouldn't worry about the smoke if it is not a consitant problem as mine did it now and again. You can tell when the car goes into regen as the idle will go up a couple hundered rmp and generally you will feel it kick in initially. They say not to turn the car off until it does it's thing but I used to. If you stop the car and get out and the radiator fan sounds like a jet about to take off then the car was in regen. Also I believe you can force regen by driving at a certain contant rmp for a short while. For my car if I cruised at 40mph in 3rd gear for more than a couple minutes it would go into regen mode.
