CR140 heating woes

Hi guys,

New to the forum! I have a 2009 CR140 (Mapped to 186bhp)

I seem to have lost my heating, it just gets Luke warm now.

According to the temp gauge on the dash the car gets up to 90 degrees within 10-15 mins of driving, doesn't fluctuate at all

Coolant in the header tank is cold after driving 40~ mile. Coolant level has never changed in the last year, correct colour, no odd gunk etc.

Pollen filter is newish, clean, I've tried it without a filter at all and still the same.

Heater is slightly warmer if I have the recirculation/demist button pressed
Moving the temperature control to cold certainly makes the heating cooler, if it's on the hottest setting it is luke warm - Never gets hot.

Air con works fine

So I did a bit of a test.. drove 40 mile round trip so car was fully up to temp sat at 90 degrees on the dash. Stopped and let it idle for 5 mins or so with blower switched off then put it on full heat with blower on highest setting and it did blow hot air for 20-30 seconds then started cooling off. I then checked and the rad is hot, pipes I could reach are hot, coolant in header tank is still cool though.

Any ideas? I’m leaning towards thermostat.

Cheers

So the car has been into a VAG specialist today and it’s proving to be a very odd one...

thermostat is fine
water pump is fine
aux water pump is fine
heater matrix flushed
VCDS shows no faults, temp sensors all fine & flaps etc working

they established that the coolant is circulating around the engine and rad absolutely fine, temps are all consistent with nothing looking out of place. For some reason the heater just blows cool/Luke warm air at a push.

they did say one of the small hoses off the header tank has a small valve part way down and this was blocked/broken so they replaced it with straight hose whilst the part is on order and this has now allowed hot coolant to reach the expansion tank rather than being cold.

i needed the car back for the weekend so it’s booked in to have the pipe replaced next week and they will do more investigating but just no idea what it could be. they said all they can do is more trialling and that there’s an unlikely chance the matrix could be part blocked but you can’t tell from flushing. When I got home I took the under dash trim off & both metal matrix pipes were really hot so coolant must be getting through it?

im completely at a loss and am fed up now!

any thoughts?

Hi, i have has similar issues like this on my mk6 golf tdi. I have little to no control over heat, i can only get heat when turned to max which i believe is electrically asisted. Once the heater control is turned back one notch or more from max position there is no heat.

Have you had any luck with your car?
