Sunroof Draining into Front Passenger Footwell

Sunroof is draining into front passenger footwell. I observed as a poured a cup of water down from the sunroof, I could literally see the stream of water emptying into my passenger side footwell. I was told that the drain is clogged but it seems like its draining in the wrong place? Living in south florida where it rains everyday I need this fixed :(

Any possible solutions? Much appreciated. Thanks

Wow i cant believe our mk6s do this as well. I had the same issue with my B5 passat. I took it to a VW specialist they basically cleaned the drains from the sunroof. They exited on the driver door. It looks like a plastic nipple just squeeze it and clean it. Try to be careful ass if u use a pressure house u can damage the drain. I havent checked our cars but thats what he did to my B5. Do it quick before it eats up your wiring harness as it did mine.

What exactly are those drains even for? When I wash my car, my footwell is full of soap and water. Even from the littlest rain storm, it's filled with water. I've never seen any other car do this before. It comes from the sunroof?

I think there's a drain at each corner of the sun roof. The fronts can be cleaned from the top down, the rears from the rear wheel wells up. Use fishing line to poke around.

Had this similar issue. Remove the passenger a pillar trim and then leak test the sunroof. The drain hose runs behind that a pillar and is connected by a connection tube right by the dash and they tend to knock loose. It's a bitch to reach with your hands. If the drain hose is connected and the water is leaking from the sunroof still then most likely the sunroof seam where it mates to the car is leaking. This happened to me and I applied silicone sealant from Home Depot on the seam. When this area is leaking it will roll down the a pillar and collect on the passenger foot well which seems like that drain hose since they both will dump water in the same spot. Your drain hose nipples are located in the fender wells for both front and rear.

I used a long length of brush cutter nylon cord, it worked a treat!!

I have this same problem. I poured water into the passenger sunroof drain and it's pouring right down into the passenger footwell - the drain connection does not go through the firewall into the fender.

What are our options? I don't want to remove any trim. I guess I can seal the sunroof drain hole with sealant or a rubber stop so that the water drains to the other 3 holes.

I saw an issue with another guy with a 2011 mk6 gti and both his front drains were "too short" from factory and did not reach the firewall into the fender. May be a common issue?

You need to remove the a pillar trim to really see what's going on. The water could be leaking from the sunroof seam and rolling down the a pillar onto the floor. Or the tube connection behind the a pillar can be knocked loose like mine was along with the leaky seam. When the connection is loose the water won't drain into your fender area.

It's a bitch to put the a pillar hook back in its slot when your re installing but I took as large pair of forceps from work from our instrument room and it did the trick. Just have patience and don't mark up your dash.

i also have a 2011 gti and am also getting water in the passenger footwell. i pulled back all the trim from the a pillar down and have access to the drain hose but it seems clear and loosely connects (i kinda think that its leaking at this connection because of how loose it was) to another hose underneath the dash which promptly disappears under there and there is remnants of leakage throughout the dash, some has even gotten in the glove box so idk what to check or where to go, any help?

Pull off a pillar trim and pour a cup of water on the sunroof. Watch where the water goes.

Sorry didnt see you already pulled it off. All you can do is pour some water and try to locate it. Also once you identify the leak a shop vac to pull all the water out of your carpet works good. Use some turtle wax carpet cleaner after and blast the heater aimed at the floor to help dry it out.

yeah i did the water thing and it just started pouring out the middle of my dash :/ so i guess im gonna try to pull the glovebox to get further up there and find the problem. the only thing is i disconnected the a pillar tube from where it connects under the dash and there was no grommet and is in a difficult spot to reconnect. I feel like it should have a solid connection

Is it pouring out from directly under the dash or does it roll down the side near the passenger door onto the floor?

The tube is a bitch to reconnect you could go to harbor freight and buy a pair of forceps to reconnect.
