nooooooo while not impossible, I think it will be highly unlikely

why not just use the maestro interface and grab a pioneer or even the new kenwood unit?

It looks like the same size, but the connections may be different. Some have modules in the glove compartment. I'm sure they aren't cheap either. Wait until someone pulls one out and sells it.

So the mk7 radio isn't actually a radio, it's just a screen that plugs into a radio in the glovebox....bummer

HOWEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just saw on TCL a picture that VW released from what looks like a Passat with the updated radio thats the same shape and size as our cars, so there may be hope! The fact that it has a CD slot (unlike the mk7) makes me believe there's actually a radio behind the screen!

It may have other components inside of the car that would need to be added as well. I hope this is a new version of the RNS-510 and fits the same.

Dang! Well it was worth a shot. Maybe I'll look into the pioneer headunits with android audio. Hopefully they work with the steering wheel controls also.

use the below for your integration, (you will get more features with the new kenwood one) and you will retain most everything except SAT radio and your factory mic (factory mic wont work with android auto and carplay since it is not incorporated in to the aftermarket BT unit)

What would I lose in terms of steering wheel control and MFI display using the combos you suggest?

pioneer radios are limited to what they can do...you retain most stuff. Kenwood you retain more and have more features.

if you use the new carplay kenwood, you need to run the mic it comes with, as it isn't supported through the BT module that is a function of the radios

for instance, kenwood allows you to get gauges on screen, pioneer does not

MFD you get basic data with the pioneer, where as the kenwood if your using the built in nav, will give you nav arrows in the display,

video to show the MFD arrows with the kenwood I made last year while we were testing it before the release:

https://youtu.be/7Cy2FrY25x8 this video is from testing of the boost update, we have since changed it and it displays more realistic numbers now, it needed a couple revisions from when I actually filmed this

FYI my father just bought a 2016 Tiguan with the MK7 radio (Apple CarPlay, android Auto, etc.)

It IS the same shape as the mk6 radio. I will be seeing if this fits our cars tomorrow
