The Official Driver Gear/VWR Spring Thread

I guess I'm always the guinea pig.

I bought a set of the VW DriverGear springs for a TDI 4 door w/DSG. I have a 4 door GTI w/DSG. The weight difference is ~20lbs. between the cars.

Eibach makes them for VW, but they are NOT the "Pro-Kit" springs.
These springs are linear (like OEM). The "Pro-Kit" springs are progressive type springs.

Part numbers:

2 door Manual, 2.5, GTI, or TDI = 5K3071677A
2 door DSG, GTI or TDI = 5K3071677B

4 door, Manual, GTI or TDI = 5K4071677A
4 door, DSG, GTI or TDI = 5K4071677B

Parts needed for install: (REQUIRED ONES IN BOLD -- others are optional & removed during install)

Rear:
1. Lower Control Arm Bolts, N-106-107-02, 2 needed
2. Lower Control Arm Nuts, N-101-064-02, 2 needed


Front:
1. Drive Axle Bolt, WHT-002-795, 2 needed -- (IF REMOVING AXLE BOLTS!!!)
2. Stabilizer bar connecting link nut, N-015-081-6, 2 needed
3. Front lower control arm nuts, N-103-320-02, 6 needed
4. Strut lower bolt, N-909-548-02, 2 needed
5. Strut lower nut, N-101-064-02, 2 needed (same nut as used on rear shock lower nut)
6. Strut upper bolts, N-101-277-07, 6 needed
7. Strut assembly rod nut, N-910-216-01, 2 needed
8. Strut Bearings, 6N0412249C, 2 needed


MISC tools needed:
1. Fwd HUB puller (rented at O'Reillys, Evertough 67032)
2. Spreader Socket (VW tool # 3424)
3. Spring Compressor (rented at AutoZone)
4. Open Socket (VW tool # 3186)
5. Torx L-wrench T45 or 7mm allen (for strut shaft)
6. Suspension limiters (VW part number 000-071-501-A)
7. 24mm 12-point socket (for axle bolts)
8. 14mm Triple Square bit (for strut pinch bolt)
9. Torque wrench
10. 2 foot breaker bar (used to get the additional 90 degrees on the front axle nut)

Anyways....they're supposed to only be for the Golf, but they fit the GTI as well (I ran them on my MKV as well).

They don't "slam" the car, but it does get rid of most of the ugly wheel gap.
Nice slightly firmer ride, but waaaay better handling than the stock springs and you still use the stock dampers...all while keeping your suspension parts under warranty

I'm still waiting for them to "settle" I suppose, but this was right after I installed them....I happened to park next to a stock GTI (4 door DSG) and took some comparison (iPhone) pics....you be the judge:

They're definitely not as low as the Pro-Kit

Why'd I switch?...2 reasons:

1. Winter time
2. The Pro-Kits need better dampers than the stock ones...well at least here in Michigan. The roads SUCK.
On smooth roads...the stock dampers can handle it & they're awesome.
But when it gets rough....they get bouncy

So I'm gonna save up for some Koni's for the spring/summer time

For me it is the perfect height, too bad VW does not put those in production. Looks good, safe clearance, better handling, and the warranty is intact, win.

Nice drop, subtle and gets rid of the freakin gap, might consider it.

In all seriousness, that drop along with the warranty is freakin perfect.

I hate rim tuck, i dont mind a few mm of tire tuck, but rim tuck on a car like this is a no-no for me.

Those springs could be a few MM lower, but for "OEM" that's freakin nice.

Where can I buy it ? Any help will be pleased !
