40mm wheel bolts without spacers?

I removed the 12.5mm spacers on the rear of my gti this weekend and totally forgot to put the stock length wheel bolts back on. Didn't realize it till I was driving back home. I'm going to swap them back out but didn't know if it would hurt anything in the meantime? There was obviously enough room for them to thread in all the way, but thought I would ask just in case.

I think you'll be OK, but with the extra bolt sticking out of the hub dirt & corrosion may make them a pain to remove next time. Since you are going to switch back & they won't be there long, no problem.
