Exhaust Tip Sizing Question

I'm looking to have my OEM exhaust tips cut off to be replaced with 4" stainless steel exhaust tips. I believe the inlet is 2.5" (correct me if I'm wrong).

If the original tips are cut off, would there be enough room left to have new tips welded on? I'm looking at this style tip where I can choose between a 6" long or 7" long tip. Which length should go with? Should I go with the longer 7" one since the originals are being cut off or would they stick out too far?

The 7 in one looks to be about the length of the tips on my Borla CB which I think stick out just the right amount.

I have Magnaflow 4" outlet tips that are 5.5" long, and they sit nicely flush with the diffuser. Honestly, the muffler shop I took it to just asked me how far I'd like them to sit, and they custom made/bent some extenders on the spot at the shop.

Have you seen these tips? its a pair of tips for the price of a single one of the tips you linked. Someone said they found these from a MK7 forum where the MK7 folks are installing them. I'll probably order a set this week and I planned to just let the muffler shop make them sit about the same length as the stock tips.

Will look into these - thanks. Looks very similar to the ones I found as well.
