Previous owner DV dumping to atmosphere

I’ve learned the previous owner of the R I just bought ran the car like this for 10’s of thousands of miles... stock diverted valve dumping to atmosphere. The car has a CTS intake and he just had the fitting where the recirculating air should return behind the MAF capped off with a plug. What do you guys think are the long term consequences of this for my motor, if any? I bought a new pipe and have it recirculating as of now, car sounds much more reasonable.

Nah nothing other than a difference in throttle response at best

It's likely running rich and your fuel trims are probably deep into the negatives. The turbo, charge pipes and DV return are after the MAF, so the recirculated air is metered, which means the ECU accounts for it in the fueling calculations.

It'll foul your spark plugs, accelerate carbon buildup on the valves, and in extreme cases it can clog your catalytic converter. Keep the recirculating pipe in place.
