Stock Air intake: Is this normal?

Hello,

I have been reading this forum for a few months now since I got my brand new 2013 GTI Wolfsburg Edition.

I drove a little over 8000kms since I took delivery of the car in April this year.

I took some time on Saturday to clean, wash and do some usual fluid inspection. While I was looking at the engine, I noticed something weird on the tube bringing the air from the outside to the filter case.

It looked like somehow the plastic got hot and retracted at a few places. I do not remember if it was like that when I got the car, and would like your opinion about it.

So, do you guys think this is normal? Do you have the same thing on your GTI with stock intake?

Thanks for your help, it's my first new car, and I may be worrying a little too much, but that does not look normal to me.

normal.. don't sweat it. VW is over-engineered to look like this.

For the same reason your air box lid is held down by 17 thousand torx bit screws as opposed to a few clips like most cars.

Yes, I just took out my stock intake to put in an APR one, and it looks just like that
