DSG MUCH smoother after basic reset

ive only driven in s mode once and i didnt like it..i actually manually shifted it up cause i didnt like how high the rpms were going, does it not auto shift in s?

also ive never actually launched my car from a stop but ive tried engaging launch control..its just

1. shift to s
2. turn off tc
3. foot on brake and gas then go right?

feels like the brakes are actually holding the car, is it supposed to just rev with no resistance against the brakes or feel like youre brake torquing?

In step three you keep you left foot on the brake and apply the throttle until it hits the rpm limiter (around 3k). You can hold it there for as long as you want. Brakes hold the car from moving. Then just release the brake and it shoots off, tyres screeching, rubber laid down on the road. Can do it in manual too.

I've driven in S mode for few blocks a couple times. It does shift and keep the RPMs high, which is kinda fun depending where you're driving around with it.

Looking forward to test LC in the spring, when there's better traction lol.

Control my ass.

Sent from my iPhone with typos

Only if you grab my stick and shift into sport mode first bro.

Regarding the input, wasnt sure if launch control was supposed to be a full neutral rev or a brake hold, now i know thanks. I too have to wait for warmer not 3 degree weather, however that polar vortex mod has helped immensely.

S mode is amazing in twisties. It does engine breaking for you. You just need to learn how to control the throttle in S mode. Don't just floor it and keep the foot on the gas all the time. S mode has wonderful engine breaking abilities, espeically in twiseties and stop and go. But it is not that great on the highway when you keep your foot on the gas. So let the foot off the gas once in a while, and then push it hard again. You just have to play with it. I love it.

Well, looks like it's back to being jerky again after adapting to my driving style. Took a few days but it's back to pre-reset behavior. It's really annoying because I know that it can be smooth but is being rough due to shitty software calibration. I'm really considering a DSG flash now because it kind of ruins the driving experience if you do a lot of city driving, which for me is like 95% of my driving. It's D mode that's the big culprit.. M mode is fine but I don't always feel like shifting manually in stop and go city traffic..

Does anyone have a recommended DSG flash that isn't outrageously expensive?

could be the cold bro. looking at where your from should be freezing which the dsg is crap in. takes my car 30 mins of driving before it starts to smooth out..probably has to heat up the fluids and what not.

It has definitely gotten colder since the reset, which usually makes the jerkiness even worse.. I'll wait til it's warmer and report back.

Any chance of a video?

My GTI is fine after 5-10min of warmup in Chiberia weather. My wife's GLI on the other hand, takes a bit longer. She describes it as "the car feels like it doesn't want to go". But her descriptions are usually over exaggerated.

It's most likely this, but try turning off your traction control. I was playing around with it last summer/fall and noticed my DSG shifted noticeably smoother with it off, especially when taking off from a dead stop or a rolling stop. Note that I always drive in M mode so my observations may or may not be relevant to you.

This is a late post but...

I purchased my Mk6 TDI with about 50,000km done. Serviced the DSG at 60,000km. Since owning the car i would (most times) notice (more than hear) the change into 1st as the car stopped at the traffic lights.
Take off engagement and up changes were OK. I drive reasonably conservatively around town with light throttle take off and gentle coasting stopping at lights (no hard last minute braking) but give it a bit of a work out in the hills, often using S mode.

At just over 80,000km the take off engagement was starting to lag and by 90,000km down changes from 4-3, 3-2 were becoming noisy & felt. 2-1 about the same.

I was getting pissed off with this and when i get in this frame of mind i tend to give cars/bikes a bit of grief driving style wise. Italian tune up.

I worked the DSG hard, manually changing up & down thru 1-4 as hard as the DSG would let me at the highest rpm the DSG would allow. I cycled the changes as often & hard as i could for about 5 minutes. Sort of fix it or f#%k it.

Next day, the DSG was noticeably different. Take up or engagement from stand still was instantaneous and soooo smooth and positive. Up-changes seemed more +ve and seemed to hold a gear a bit longer. Down changes have improved with the 4-3, 3-2 clack now very infrequent.

I spoke with a reputed German Auto specialist and he said i had likely done a form of DSG reset. Maybe it was due to more forceful oil circulation thru the galleries, removing glaze off the clutch plates etc or even in the DSG brain. What-ever.

I have only done about 300km since the 'reset' and it is holding. Longer term??
I am of the opinion the DSG needs a bit of a work out occasionally as driving the car like a pussy does not tax the DSG, and in reality, i think it is a high performance piece of equipment that needs to be used as intended.

Next up is a change of DSG fluid and another 'reset' drive.

If anyone reads this and gives the methodology a try (at your own risk :D), i would be interested to hear your results.

cheers
