From show car to sleeper to the new commuter

It's been 6 years since I told myself no more playing with cars. I guess you can't really change who you are. My history with cars is very up and down. My show car was stolen...so I built a sleeper. That got boring really quick (sold it to my brother then he crashed it). So now my new commuter.

With the price going up I decided to get rid of my truck and get something that was decent on gas. This is my first VW. Picked up July 10th at 9pm at an impulse. CSG DSG Base.

I know some people argue why get a base....I figured if I was going to get something fun again then I would start from the bottom and work up. But this is supposed to be my reliable daily driver. I put my first 1000 miles in two weeks. I drive a lot and LA traffic sucks.

This forum has been VERY informative and I am very excited to see what I can do with this.

Very cool, and understandable to me. I'm getting my GTI as a commuter in the next 2 weeks and I'm 99% sure I'm going base as well. I put about 30k miles a year on my commuter car, so even though I'd like the HIDs, I'm never going to use the NAV, I know where point A and point B are. ;)

Adding $3-$5k to the price for loading it up seems kinda wrong since I will be selling/trading it in about 3-4 years anyway.

I feel you. I put so many miles on my car a year. I needed something that I'll feel comfortable being in hours a day. The GTi is a great quick car that fit what I needed.

I do wish I had HID but there are more and more alternatives coming out.

I'm sure as I modify the car I will tend to lean to what I know and use products from contacts that I still have. Should be interesting.

Finally a build page...

That exhaust looks good!!! And didn't know you did more than just the sub, luv the focal speakers. My old BMW used to have CDT components up front with 120 rms going to each one and JL audio dual 10 inch w3's with 600 rms going to it, now my audio is in the house with a full B&W/ Rotel HT setup:) gonna have to do an audio demo for me sometime:)

I like how the sleeper was all torn up on the outside then you pop the hood and BAM!!! very nice...

Well looks like the mod bug never goes away does it:)

excited to hear more about the atp intercooler once installed...

Yea I'm trying to modify the stock intercooler end tanks to make brackets. That way there is no unused IC blocking the radiator.

PandaGTi and I were discussing uses for this new real estate.

I bet you had a lot of fun with that sleeper. Man...it looks like a piece of shit on the outside. Ultimate sleeper. Love it. Love the Mazda and GTI too

an oil cooler would fit nicely in that space. should be pretty slick when you've got it all done. i really like how those intercoolers look behind the honeycomb...
