$1000 budget for tires

Never tried the Conti DWS..how are they in the dry? better then the V12?

I unfortunately have not tried the V12 either, so i would not be at liberty to directly compare them. However I can pretty conclusively tell you that the grip is phenominal for a all season. During the last few weeks we have had really wet weather and the car has gripped admirably.

The side walls feel consistant with the stockers, stiff but not bone jarring. Most reviews about the tire seem to be consistant with the 50,000 mile rating they report.

All season (DWS) vs max performance summer (V12)... V12 performers better in the dry by a ridiculous margin. Similar to the margin the Pilot Super Sports outperform the V12's.

Not bad, thanks for your input!

I realized they are all season, i can answer my own question now:laugh:.

I'm waiting on the V12's. My last set was phenomenal.

But those are not really comparable though due to the difference in treadwear rating. You really can only compare three types of high performance tires:
1. DOT legal pseudo-slicks
2. All out summer grip (wear rating below 200)
3. Summer performance with a more enduro type Compound (treadwear rating >200)

You really can't compare cross-genre

x10. that comparison is ridiculous. Max performance autox cheater tires vs sporty all seasons?

If fuel economy is a concern, those Michelin PSS are going to cost you about 2mpg and the V12 will cost you almost 4mpg (from tirerack test data). Have you looked at the BFG G-force Sport Comp-2?

After some intense research on the V12s and PSSs, I am back to square one.... The PSS are definitely better than the V12s, no doubt. But the V12s performance is definitely best of their price range. I don't mind paying more for the PSS, but it seems like the performance gain you get from the PSS is not worth the 400bucks difference, and they perform better in rain.

+1 The Pilot Super Sports are no doubt an excellent tire. However, the Ventus V12s are, in my opinion, one of the best bang for your buck tires. You get a great quality tire at an affordable price :w00t:

Tested on indentical 328i's the PSS was able to pull 1.07g's compared to the Hankook pulling .90... how much money would you spend on suspension mods to get that kind of improvement? They are well worth the price jump over the Hankooks, they are in a completely different league...

Also the PSS WET lap time is faster than the V12's DRY time...well worth it.

psh you know we are only worried about which tires provide the least amount of wheel spin when launching/going WOT in first or second gear.

:word:

When you really break it down $50/tire plus shipping is pretty minimal. Especially when you consider how long the tire will last.

Little update on the rebates, after i got $100 off from purchasing off eBay, i also sent in a rebate form from Hankook hoping i can get the $80 which they had with the promo. While i didn't think its gonna work, well it did, just received the $80 addition to the $100 from tiredirect.
