Well, taking off the centre cap using this method you have to spend $$, but taking off the wheel and then remove the centre cap won't spend you $$, just need patience. This is a really good idea though.

So i grabbed my drill 7/54 bit, drilled 2 holes.. rounded out and put in the plastic wheel lug cap remover.. slight tug and its out.
Aftermarket wheels... i know i wouldn't do this to OEM lugs.. i did it ti pull the center caps out to silicone on the VW wheel stickers.
