Soo I picked up my beautiful 2011 Gti in January of 2014. It was only a base model but I fell in love with the Shadow Blue and it only had 18k miles on it with a decent price tag. I test drove a Genesis and I was scheduled to test drive an FRS but my buddy Barnes let me drive his Gti and there was no turning back haha.

I had a bunch of plans for it. White faced BBS LMs with gold hardware were about to be ordered with some coil overs.
This is pretty much what I wanted down the road..

Its a good thing my Dodge hadn't sold yet though because apparently Ashley Furniture trucks love to run red lights and really don't like GTIs...

Hadn't even received the plates in the mail yet..
Insurance sent me a wonderful check in the mail. After cancelling my extended warranty I was actually about a grand ahead.

So what did I do next? What anyone else should have done of course! I picked the glass out of my hair and took my sore body right back to the dealership!

...and bought another one!:happyanim:

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1412743347.968722.jpg

I got back to CarMax just in time to grab a 2012 Candy White 4 door. Things actually worked out because I paid a grand less and got a sunroof, upgraded stereo, steering wheel controls, and 8k less miles. I also found that i liked the 4 door better.

It was bone stock and the previous owner even hooked me up with some Weather Tech window visors and a sunroof visor that I ditched because it looked goofy to me.

Said a little prayer and headed home :D

Now, let the mods commence..

First off she got an interior LED light kit. All overheads, footwells, glove box, trunk, and license plate lights. Its a huge difference, I couldn't live without it now.

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1412743429.961010.jpg

Then came coil overs..

Got a set of D2s and I absolutely love them. They have a beautiful ride, they're very easy and quick to adjust, and they have the capability of going very low. My only complaint is that at my height my only options for camber are 1 degree or 2.5 degrees. I was really hoping for a solid 2 degrees all the way around. I might pick up some camber plates in the future.

I also slapped some teal on the grille stripes for some color.

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1412743686.938910.jpg
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1412844846.770065.jpg

I ordered paint from Automotivetouchup.com along with some clear to color match my side markers.
They turned out great! You cant even tell they're spray painted. It's a perfect match with an amazing finish.

We used the same stuff to color match Barnes' side markers and side skirts. I'm highly impressed with this company, if anyone has any questions about their products feel free to ask.

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1412743726.515068.jpg

Next on the chopping block was the exhaust. After an hour or so on YouTube I finally decided on the Borla CatBack.
It has a beautiful tone and didn't break the bank. I ended up picking mine up lightly used from a guy on here.

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1412743778.087319.jpg

Decided to play around in the shop and make the Gti a little more classy. 30 minutes later... wood flooring happened!

I plan to redo it in mahogany wood. I have a 2x10" angled sub box that I plan to wrap in mahogany to match. I cant wait to see how it turns out.
I found some 3M wood vinyl to match the mahogany flooring.

I plan to wrap the long interior trim pieces that go across the dash and each door like this.. (not my picture of course)

Once all the red stitching is gone it should all look pretty nice.

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1412743898.923352.jpg

Can't have coil overs without some rims to show off. I ordered a set of TenzoR Concept 9's (the bank account wouldn't allow Work Xd9's).
Their specs are 18x8 +45 all the way around. They're pretty light too, a lot lighter than the Detroits anyways.
I'm running them with hub rings and wobble bolts from ECS Tuning.

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1412743838.396528.jpg
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1412743863.722149.jpg

So.. who out there likes those awesome stock tail lights?

NOBODY that's who! :yikes:

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1412744106.336768.jpg

I also used the rest of my paint from Automotivetouchup.com to color match the lower valance. It looks amazing! So glad I got rid of the huge grey smile.
To anyone planning on doing this if you have any questions ask. Its a pita to get the bumper apart and get the valance out.

I also took this time to pull the inner fender well and replace the stock secondary horn with one of the euro chirp ones. The stock one is annoying.
I also used my buddy's Ross-Tech cable to make it chirp when locking and unlocking, along with a few other little mods like the ability to roll the windows up and down with the key fob.

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1412744133.985422.jpg

So I like the color Teal if you couldn't tell from the grille, and PlastiDip just so happened to be releasing their all new "Intense Teal" in spray cans about the same time I got my wheels on. So teal it was!

While the rims were off and drying I used that time to paint my calipers black. The red was just no bueno [emoji107]

So I was trolling through ebay and stumbled across this spoiler. I had to trim and fit it but it turned out pretty nice. Ordered more paint and clear and color matched it. I've had to remount it twice now though since it only goes on with 3M adhesive tape. I think i'm going to mount it with some good old Liquid Nails next time. I'd really rather not see it tumbling down the highway in my rear view :(

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1412744237.444708.jpg

Mounted my euro plate. I was going to go plate-less since I live in SC but there were about a dozen holes from people mounting the brackets for plates. I had to have something to cover it up.

Now it's alignment time with my buddy Casper. If he can get his static sitting, leaf eating, pavement licking Speed3 on the rack, he can get anything on it!

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1412744273.931200.jpg

Parked next to a bone stock mk6.
Pretty impressed with mine so far [emoji106]

Wash time with a friend.
Wanted to get some photos the next day and the gti was lookin a little dirty.
Seriously, wanna get some weird looks? Go wash your cars at 3am. Apparently thats weird..

Some buddies and I went down to a favorite spot in town for a little photo shoot. I think they turned out pretty nice. We had a good time anyways, all that matters.

Back in the garage she goes! My Unitronic Intake came in the mail.
I also looked through a couple of catch can DIYs and figured I would give one a shot.
While the hood was up I painted the reservoir caps black. Now im looking for a black or grey air filter.
The reason shes all crooked and shoved in the corner was because not long after we started a bad storm rolled in. Skies opened up and then boom.. Hail. We somehow managed to fit 2 cars in a large 1 car garage.

Oh and I was walking around a junk yard with a buddy and came across a Mk1 Gti. There wasn't much left but I was able to snag the grille. Figured it would look good on the garage wall.

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1412845928.647409.jpg

My vinyl guy came through for me. It all came out perfect. Hell he even delivered!

Then I grabbed these at SoWo.

Here are a few shots of the cars at SoWo. We had a blast and will be returning next year for sure!

The monsterous river behind the car in the last photo was a creek crossing we didn't know about on the way up to the cabin. We ended up having to park on the side of the road and hiking the mile up the mountain to our cabin.

So I stole my buddy's engine cover for a weekend. Ordered some Deep Black Peal from Automotivetouchup and painted it after smoothing it all out with some fine sandpaper. I sanded down the center and painted it Candy White and cleared the whole thing. I love how it turned out, almost didnt wanna gvie it back haha.

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1412745375.973202.jpg

Time for that 20k mile service. Gotta love spending your lunch break at the dealership!

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1412846563.316000.jpg

Did some cleaning and threw some more teal in the engine bay. I still hate that red filter but everything im finding is a cone filter and won't fit in the housing. Has anyone dyed one before?

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1412745414.660632.jpg
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1412745564.514644.jpg

Snapped this photo at a going away a few days before I left.

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1412845803.634193.jpg

Just my luck. 2 days before I leave for a 6 month deployment I eat a deer. Luckily it didnt do that much damage. My roomate dropped it off and insurance took care of it. I may have also ripped the little aluminum VW emblem inside the headlight out.. Figured it would look good with all of the other parts on the wall.

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1412745621.651103.jpg

Welp, im off to the land of sand. Had a nice little farewell at the Deployment Center.

So your initial order from automotive touch up. Did you just get one can color match and one clear? That was enough to do the markers and front valance? Just asking since I just did my markers and was thinking of doing my front valance too. :p

On another note, this should be moved here: http://www.golfmk6.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=39

One 12oz can should be plenty to do the side markers and valance. Its great quality with pretty good coverage for only being a 12oz can.

My bad, been reading for a long time but still kinda new to posting. How do I go about moving it? Oops..

Sweet, I'll have to take apart the bumper the next time I'm swapping my headlights.

And try contacting a moderator through PM's. No way for regular members to move their own threads sadly.

Its a pain to get the valance out. You have to pull the entire bumper apart, but its worth it. Make sure you sand it down and prep it good or it will chip. I didnt prep mine well the first time and it chipped pretty bad.

I cant wait! Thanks

stationed at shaw?

Yes Sir, its not too bad haha

nice thread, looks like you have some solid plans

Thanks, its getting there. As long as she's ready for SoWo!

Also, completely slipped my mind, I installed a New South boost gauge in the drive side vent. Installation was a breeze and I love having it, although looking back I wish I had went with AWE Tuning instead. The gauge itself looks a lot cheaper than the AWE and the New South glass is flat as where the AWE glass is curved which creates a glare. Just my opinion anyways.

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1412920186.292624.jpg

I snatched some seat handle inserts from ebay as well. Everyone was doing the brushed aluminum ones which look great but the Fast ones caught my eye I guess haha.

I've had my bumper apart before to paint the lower honeycombs gloss black. Was definitely a pita the first time around. Did the same paint job on a customer's car and it wasn't nearly as bad. :p But thanks for the info. Hope everything goes well with your service.
