Probably between $700-800 when all is said and done.

I already have the door puddle lights and auto head light module I have yet to install. Still waiting for the weather to get warmer. I might consider being a guinea pig for this...I just hate having something not function completely the way it's supposed to.

Looks like erwin.vw.com has a HVAC repair manual available for the Mk6. According to the summary info it seems to be for all the models including the R (which actually does come with Climatronic). Maybe I should pay for a 1 day subscription and end all doubt on this?

Sounds like a good idea

^ Need to wait till tomorrow when I'm at work. Turns out that Erwin needs some weird plugin that only seems to be for Windows (I have a Mac). Hopefully I'll have more info then.

Okay, I was able to get Erwin working on my work PC. It appears that there are a few sensors that are necessary in order for it to work:
  • Left/right vent temperature sensor.
  • Left/right footwell vent temperature sensor.
  • Sunlight sensor (but seems to use a default value if the sensor fails).
  • Optional air quality sensor for automatic recirculating air support.

It also appears that there are separate motors for the left and right side. This isn't going to be a simple swap of the controller.

BTW, the "Climatic" system (before late 2011/2012 models) has different (dis)assembly instructions than the manual system, so it's possible that the controller might not be the only thing different there either.

EDIT: there seems to be a wiring pin-out table in there for the controller as well, but I think it might be Climatronic only.

I knew about the motors and other controllers being necessary. But for me (at least) the question is can I make this swap without losing the features I currently have even though I would not gain any others...

Exactly. We should rename the thread. No one is really trying a real climatronic. Just want the cool dash bits.
