Reverse Top Speed on GTI

Coogie

Ready to race!
Crazy question: Does anyone know the top speed our MK6 GTI’s can go in reverse?

Let’s assume stock. I wouldn’t know if manual vs DSG matters.

I want to know what the 0 to -60 is.

The 0-60 forward for a stock GTI is easy to find online if you don’t know yours by heart. Depending on the year/generation of the GTI, it’s around 6.4 seconds according to VW for the MK6.

If you meant reverse, there is no way the stock GTI goes 60 mph in reverse. I couldn’t find it online, so asking here. I’m guessing it’s 12-15 mph is the top reverse speed, but I’m wondering if anyone knows from experience.

Could try it and get back to us with the results, don't forget to bust a 180 *eats popcorn*

[emoji23] LMAO!

I’ve never done a reverse 180. If I screw it up at a higher reverse speed like 12 mph, could the GTI flip? Center of gravity is low on the GTI, but no clue.

I tried doing some math to figure this out.

Our cars have two final drive ratios. One is for 1st-4th gear, the other for 5th and 6th. I can't find anything that says which one reverse uses, though, so I'll do both:

*Manual Transmission*

Reverse gear ratio: 3.99

"Final I": 3.94
Total ratio: 15.7
Wheel RPM at redline (6800): 433
Speed at redline: 32 MPH*

"Final II": 3.09
Total ratio: 12.33
Wheel RPM at redline (6800): 552
Speed at redline: 41 MPH*

*DSG*

Reverse gear ratio: 3.99

"Final I": 4.06
Total ratio: 16.20
Wheel RPM at redline (6800): 420
Speed at redline: 31 MPH*

"Final II": 3.14
Total ratio: 12.53
Wheel RPM at redline (6800): 543
Speed at redline: 40 MPH*
