1st DIY POST! Rear emblem - The Proper mod

-the disadvantage was a loss of 4mph from my top speed

-i didnt want to take the black part off of the car because then I would have needed to glue/tape it back on, and that shit wasnt gonna fly

-i just noticed the ad saying 'call an expert' is seemingly mocking my mask job

There's no need to take the backing off as well. Just the VW. If you know what you're doing and have some common sense, masking around the backing will not allow paint behind it. I did it the same way, minus all the news paper. Used large black trash bags as drop down sheets haha.

Nice DIY. I like how it turned out. If anyone prefers not to paint it while on the car, you can remove the whole latch assembly. This will require you to remove the hatch trim, and unscrew the latch from the body. Takes a few minutes if you know what you're doing and have a torx bit. Also helps if you want to get it color matched or painted at a body shop and don't want to leave the car...
