Radio upgrade question

I have a late 2010 MK VI Golf that came equipped with a funky Premium 7 HU, stock speaker system, no subwoofer. I have the opportunity to get an RCD-510 in good shape, but it only makes sense if it sounds better. In addition, I've been told by VW service managers that the MFI will have to be programmed due to the vast difference in the two head units; something I'm unable to do. If anyone here has done the same upgrade I'd like to hear whether the 510 sounds any better and if you had to do some Vag Com programming to get it to work. Thanks

I installed a Pioneer 2300nex and don't regret it for a moment. Also no coding was needed to get it to work with the car.

Sorry can't answer your question just offering another avenue of potential upgrading.

I appreciate the response, but that's far more than I want to spend nor am I able to do the install. I imagine the Pioneer required quite a few accessories too.
