once again, people comparing wrong cars vs wrong cars.
As Max said, v6 vs v6. The new 3.8 is a beast.
Genesis starts at 28,750 with the 3.8 comes with the brembos, lsd, bluetooth, and 19" wheels. You don't compare v6 to v6 you compare by price. That 3.8 has to compete with the 5.0 mustang (and fails IMO).
Apples to oranges, modified GTI vs stock old engined Genesis. The new one has +50 HP and +30 torque. My younger brother has a 2011 genesis coupe. 3.8 r-spec. You would think with the displacement it would have a decent low end pull. It doesn't. Good power up top but you have to wring the motor for power. My MKVI GTI with APR 1 pulls him in every gear.

The 2.0T Genesis is supposed to compare with the V6 Mustang. Similar power and MPG....dimensionally they arent that different neither....
You can't be serious  And the V6 is supposed to compare to the V8? That doesn't make any sense.
What's there to be surprised about? The 4 is rated at 21/31, V6 stang is 19/31. The biggest dimensional difference is overall length, where the stang is longer by 6". Width, height, track, curb weight are all in the same ballpark. Genesis is actually 4" longer in wheelbase.....
gen 2.0t vs the focus st? IDK, Ford doesn't really have anything on the field of the gen 2.0t.
To compare, because I/L is frequently VERY slow in their figures for all cars...

** Keep in mind the two Gen Coupes AND two Mustangs tested here were the highest performance variants for each engine option. What that means is they all four had 19" summer tires AND Brembo brakes. The GTI had 18" summer tires and VW-Spec brakes, and an Automatic too...
I think our little GTI does quite well all things considered against a Gen Coupe 2.0T...
And the Gen Coupe still doesn't seem to do that well at any level compared to what a Mustang does for thousands less...
Please show me how a mustang is cheaper?! Comparably equipped it is more money than the genesis.
