Wheels and suspension question

I have a fitment question that I was hoping to get some advice on. I have a 2013 golf R and here is what I want to do: I want to put her on H&R Sports (or something similar) which should get me to about 24.75 FTG, and for rims I want to go with a 17x9 et42 rim on 235/40/17 tire. Do you think that will work? I am guessing that I will at the least have to roll and pull the fenders? Any advice is appreciated!

Had to do a little digging on Instagram but I found this shot for ya, not my car but it'll give you the idea. It's a GTI lowered on spm springs running 245/40/17 on 17x9et45. He says he did the fender screw mod and that was it.

Again, not my car and have no experience with a setup like this but I would think with the 235/40 you wouldn't have an issue even if you went with a slightly lower spring.

You shouldn't have an issue. You could always go to a 225 instead.

That post above is also a forum member. Goes by Brendon on the forums.

Thanks for the replies, this makes me feel better about the setup in mind. How do you think something like this would impact performance/grip? on a 9 inch wheel is running a 235 going to stretch and hurt the grip? I would love to get 245s on there if possible, but again worried that I will rub.

So any takers on advice regarding the performance ramifications of running a 235/40 on a 9 inch rim?

235s should be fine on a 9" rim.

You'll like the added grip. ET45 is probably a safer bet, but you'll be close.

the 17" wheels may present a clearance issue with the front brake calipers. The wheels will fit but the balancing weights may interfere with the calipers and be scrapped off.

the GTI has smaller calipers
