Hood Release Issue

I couldn’t find an answer to my particular question. I am able to pull the piece in the cabin and the hood does “pop”. It raises up but when I push the “button” under the hood up it doesn’t release and cannot be pulled up any farther. Is there a way to replicate what that button does so I can get in and attempt to fix the issue. Thanks in advance!

Look under the hood and slide the piece of plastic over so you can open the hood. Had that problem once before.

Thanks so much for your response, but I am a fool. Could you be a little more detailed on what exactly I am looking for under the hood.

Manually move the hook to the side
The "button" you're referring to is just a latch/actuator that moves the hook over
