I'm 43 and have the 4 door. I consider it a nice, practical, sporty car; not "immature" at all.

The appointments are quite nice and I find it to be a very comfortable car (I've been driving a 1994 Porsche 911 as a daily driver for many years).

My wife loves it (but then she has been driving a 2003 MINI Cooper S since new).

25, wife and a kid. Second baby on the way. I needed a four door for carseats, but couldn't give up a sporty ride for something boring. I'm in love with this car.

As long as they don't pull you over too much! Do people really do that stupid punch dub thing? VW totally turned the "punch bug" into "punch dub" for their advertising campaign. If they actually do that, I'll be surprised.

I'm not surprised by your wife's impression of the car, but this car is so much more than a "college grad" car. I actually had a GTI as my first car out of college, but I'm turning 40 in August and still chose this car over a BMW 3 series which I had ordered.

I'm coming from several back-to-back Audis, and this GTI does not have me missing them. I believe the GTI is more fun to drive than the Audis and has a great fit and finish about it that also keeps me very satisfied.

I'm a long-time car buff and this GTI really impressed me from the first test drive. You gotta go drive one to truly understand this. Have your wife do this; I did, and she loved it.

The five door hatch has been great with having our 3 year old son, lugging around all the necessary gear, and getting him in and out. The car has a surprisingly spacious feel inside for the car's size.

40, and I quite like it. My wife is a few years younger, but she likes it quite a bit too.

Thumbs up

40 here. Keep coming back to a GTI, fourth one! The MKI was my Dad's (this was back in the 80's and he was in his 40's) and then I got it. My wife is from Europe and totally gets it. She had hinted that she would take it off my hands - not yet woman!

Just turned 28. This is the first car that I bought, having previously driven a Honda Fit. This is totally different. I've only had the car for two days now, but already I can't stop thinking about it.

31 here.

My biggess concern about the car is the fact that in 6-8 years, I will not be able to find an as sweet little car to replace it.

Im still positive on the future
