Then just use the cubbies in the doors to put your capped beverages in. I like it because then my passengers don't ask about bringing cans of soda or whatever into my car to make a sticky mess.

Agreed. But fortunately, you can usually get them off eBay for less than 10.

Just did this mod, thanks to the multiple contributors for the in depth guide, i found this easy to do and completed the job in just a few hours, i didn't feel uncomfortable at any point of the install, all went back together smoothly, id recommend this to just about any DIY'er, definitely get yourself some trim tools though !

I'm one of the ones that had been turned off from doing this because I thought it was too difficult. Now I'm interested in trying.

Thanks for the DIY!

The 6 speed install is the same as the DSG, just pop the cover off using a trim tool and pull the boot over the shifter, and let it rest there, it's easy, just take your tip and pry up carefully, if you have a harbor freight near you, i think i paid about 6 bucks for the trim tool set.

Everything went back together smoothly for me, until I hit the rear AC trim. I have the trim around the hand brake in, and screwed in, and that fits well, but when I try to put the next big piece (the AC trim in the back, with the rear vents in it), I can't get it to fit. The top of it clicks in, but the bottom of it has a ~1/4 inch gap. Then, when you gently pull on the bottom of the trim, it comes apart really easily. Any tips on reinstalling it? Or can someone who has done this mod post a photo of the gap between the rear AC trim and the trim around the hand brake? Maybe it's supposed to be like that, but I don't remember that gap there.

Thanks!

Yep, that's perfect. How do you get the bottom to go in flush? Mine just goes in with a gap on the bottom...
