Arent there some guides on the outer sides of the part that have to slide into guides inside the back of the center console ? I seem to remember having to take it off at an angle and reinstalling it that way...

Yeah, there are. And I put mine in at an angle, but the bottom doesn't secure. Has anyone else had this problem? This blows, haha. My interior has like 3 steps until it's all back together, and this has been keeping me from finishing it for like 3 weeks now.

Honestly, I don't remember how that part was reassembled. I don't think it was anything tricky, aside from having to insert it at an angle. The side panels up front, by the driver and passenger leg were harder to put back in place - I'm actually not even sure that they are in correctly, since I remember having a very hard time taking them apart, and putting them back was sliding and squeezing them in.

If anything, make sure that the part is properly seated at the top and that the clips on the side are sliding in correctly. Maybe the bottom is getting caught in the carpet or something? Good luck!

Thanks for the kind words man. I'm pretty sure it's not getting caught on the carpet, and I'm sure the guides/clips are all fine, since it's a brand new piece of trim (broke one already). If I press hard when it's seated, then it will be flush, but it slides apart when I release. I tried just putting the ashtray in while holding it, but that didn't seem to hold it properly once secured. I'm taking it to the stealership today, and if that doesn't work I'm going to have my buddy look at it. Hopefully I can get my interior put back together and cleaned today!

I've done my mod today on the Golf, and I'm quite happy of the result.

In fact the Euro cup holder itself is not necessary better than the NA one, since the NA one has higher side for a better holding of high bottles or coffee smug. But I really love the cover and that's the main reason why I've made the mod. Now I've also ordered the bottle opener/separator so it might fix a bit the holding problem I have.

Bottom line: there was few cue not mentioned in the DIY, but overall it's a great job having done this DIY. Also earlier this week I've performed the same operation on my 2009 Passat B6 Wagon, and I must say that the euro cup holder for the Passat is really the best I've ever seen.

One more thing: my euro cup does not have the small rubber carpet in the bottom. Where did you get yours ?

ECS sells it for 8$ US, bot they charges me 22$ US of shipping.....

You might be able to pick it up at your local VW dealer - the part number is 1K0-863-301-B-9B9 - please double check, because the company from which I bought it sent me both pads (front and back), and this is the only part number that I can find from my email communication with them. This way you won't have to pay the crazy shipping price.

In fact, ECS gives this part number: 1K0863301B71N

So that's the one I ordered through my dealer for 7.5$ Can !

I really likes ECS for the Europeans parts and the service they gives, But for few parts, it's just cheapers to buy at the local dealer.

I recently bought a set of 4 Goal 17" wheels, and ECS had a good price but the shipping killed the bargain, while my local dealer gavel me an extra 10% off the tag price.

Thanks for the write up - install isn't too bad...just take your time. I ended up with two extra screws Originally had 4 extra ones, but remembered I hadn't screwed in the screws under the gearbox/ashtray...and it wasn't nearly so intimidating to go back in there a second time
