A factory good condition type-r would overtake a stock gti in just about every situation aside from ride quality. The difference in quarter mile time stock for stock is so marginal its not worth blabbing over. Take the cars on the kind of track they were designed to compete on and a type r will take a stock gti down. Ive owned both.

uh yeah for newer cars. Some newer SI's are even dropping in TSX/TL blocks in for a "franken swap". pretty beast.
id say majority of 2002 and older Honda's are swapped. Those Honda's are pretty quick. B16/B17/B18/B20 motors can do some damage on a light car.

^^^^ this is the perfect description

A lot of the other replies just seem like guys who love their vw and don't like Hondas very much. Sure you don't see too many modded s2ks around but even a cheap supercharger on the stock engine would destroy a gti by far. Turbo would be even more embarrassing. The type s motors are known for withstanding boost as well. So you're right, not every Honda needs a swap to be fast. They need supporting mods but hey that's with any car you want to make into a beast

A 6SM GTI should be right about the same as a JDM Type R and a DSG would be faster than both. Yes I've driven a Type R too, and every road test you will read will say the same.
