Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire - 2010 GTI MK6

I have had it suggested that this is caused by a bad PVC. If that is what it looks like I am just going to replace it to be safe.

Thanks for the reply's!

Check the plugs and perhaps start looking into carbon build-up cleaning if you are up at the high end of mileage (which it seems like you may be).

I have had misfires caused by bad gas before. If you recently filled up it could be that.

We checked the Plugs, and they all looked good and were gapped just fine as far as wee could see.

And yes I have 74000 Miles, Carbon cleaning is going to be happening down the road this year.

One thing to note, when I first start the car up in the morning, it has a very rough idle for about 30 seconds before the idle settles down, this is when the misfire first popped up.

Thats a classic sign of carbon build up. Your misfires are most likely due to carbon build up.

That is what I was assuming actually, I am going to be doing that later this year.

I would check the first thing he mentions that goes wrong on the intake manifolds it happened to be what was causing my car to misfire pretty badly.
You can kinda twist is back and push it in again and the misfires go away once you do ive been having to do that until it gets warmer out for me to change my manifold.

If this occuring in cylinder 4 only, try swapping coils with another cylinder. If the error code follows to the new cylinder the coil is swapped to you know what the problem is. Replace all coils same time.

Unfortunately our coils are a common point of failure. I would be surprised if you have a carbon problem at that mileage unless you are never driving over 50 and If it is consistently one cylinder even more unlikely.

If coil is not problem, pull that 4 cyl plug again and look for cracks in the ceramic.

Just some easy things for you to check.

If you're going to do the carbon cleaning on the valves, make sure you take out all the injectors and have all the injector tips cleaned of carbon buildup as well. I know most will let the injectors stay in the block if they don't come out with the manifold but give yourself the peace of mind and have those cleaned as well.

I had my carbon cleaning done at 65k miles by a friend that works at a stealership but 15,000 miles later I was experiencing all the symptoms you're experiencing plus the engine just shutting off whenever I would throw the car into neutral on a cold winter morning. Knew it was a fuel system related issue and started looking into high pressure fuel pumps, low pressure fuel pumps and the fuel control module on top of the gas tank as possible suspects. Didn't have $600 laying around for a shop to do another carbon cleaning or to buy any of the parts I mentioned so I decided to do it myself. Everything went smoothly and all my injectors happened to come off with the manifold. Turns out the two injectors that stayed in the block during the first carbon cleaning when done by the stealership were caked with carbon. So much so that you couldn't see the tiny holes from where the fuel was suppose to be injected. Cleaned the valves, all the injectors, replaced the seals and manifold gasket and she's like a brand new car. Now to have the timing chain service done and that pesky tensioner replaced.

TLDR; Clean your injectors even if they stay on the engine block. You'll thank me later.

I have watched this video before, I am just getting a problem on the #4 cylinder. When I take the top end apart to do the carbon cleaning I will take a look at it.

Thank you for the advice, I cruise at 80 on the regular, I drive a lot for work, the problem is intermittent, I woke up this morning and the misfire has cleared, but I know it will be back if I let the car idle in neutral. I will check the plug again this weekend.
